Is there really a difference between talking to a therapist and a friend or family member?

What is the difference between a small boutique style practice and the larger national practices I see advertise everyday?
In a smaller boutique style practice, you will receive a personalized approach with a more experienced therapist. Each client is valued and not treated as a number. Your therapist will really get to know you. Larger, factory style, practices tend to reward productivity, which is defined by the number of clients a therapist sees. In a boutique style practice productivity is typically defined by getting to know each client in-depth, and by providing personal attention.
Isn’t it difficult to talk to a stranger about your problems?
Yes, it is difficult to speak to someone you just met about what’s going wrong in life. But, a good therapist will get to know you and help you build a rapport, trust, and comfort level in therapy sessions.
Can therapy help with sports performance?
Yes, therapy can help with sports performance. Anxious thinking, depressive thinking, low self-esteem, problems outside of your sport, academic stress, and relationship issues can all interfere with performance. Therapy can address these problems.
Why should I invest in myself?
You’re worth it! Many people invest their time in many different things, but never their mental health. Investing time in your mental health has so many short and longterm benefits. It is difficult to describe why improving mental health helps, but you will understand once you focus on improving your personal psychology.
